1962 Kurtis Kraft Indy 500 roadster race car driven by Jim Rathmann, the 1960 Indy 500 winner. The racer was modified by my master mechanic Smokey Yunick for the Indy 500. This would be the 110th and last Indy Car built by Frank Kurtis. The wing was used in practice several times but eventually discarded for the more conventional roadster. The car was timed at 165 MPH thru the turns, a new record. However the drag on the straights proved to be too much. The wing was not allowed the next year because of a rule change. The rear suspension was also modified by Yunick similar to an independent rear suspension on the Cooper Climax.
All three original boxes and a COA are included. The car finished ninth and the race was won by Rodger Ward.
This is a rare hard to find model with all the pieces as the wing is removable. The hood raises to reveal the Offy engine. Rathmann in his retirement became a Chevy/Cadillac Dealer in Melbourne Fl. Please check photos as this is the car you will receive. Some photos are of actual race car. Browse our other items also as we have many. Your satisfaction is our goal.
